Maui Photography- 35mm Film
After a whirlwind year of nonstop creativity and connection, I found myself longing for a pause—a moment to breathe, reflect, and rediscover inspiration. In September, I packed my bags, loaded up my film cameras, and escaped to the lush island of Maui with my sister and boyfriend. What I didn’t realize was just how deeply this trip would reignite my love for photography and open my eyes to new possibilities as a Seattle photographer dreaming of capturing life in different places.
Our mornings began slowly, with trips to a local coffee shop tucked away in town. The scent of fresh pastries mingled with the salty ocean breeze, and each cup of coffee felt like a ritual—a quiet prelude to days spent exploring. By mid-morning, we’d find ourselves at the water’s edge, snorkeling with turtles as the sun began its gentle climb. There’s something grounding about watching these creatures glide effortlessly through the waves. These moments, framed by the golden light of sunrise, reminded me why I fell in love with photography—capturing the kind of fleeting beauty that feels impossible to put into words. Sometimes I think, “If only our eyes could take pictures…”.
Maui is a paradise of contrasts. From the vibrant greens of the jungle to the endless blues of the ocean, the island feels alive in a way that begs to be preserved on film. My cameras became an extension of myself, documenting everything from swaying palms at dusk to candid moments with my sister and boyfriend. Shooting on film in Hawaii is its own kind of magic; the grain and imperfections seem to mirror the wild, untamed beauty of the island itself. As a photographer, I can only imagine how incredible it would be to create timeless images for couples and families amidst this dreamlike landscape.
Beyond its physical beauty, Maui felt like an emotional reset. The slower pace allowed me to reflect on the past year—the couples I’ve photographed, the families I’ve met, and the countless frames I’ve captured as a Seattle photographer. But this trip also sparked something new: a desire to expand, to bring my film photography to new places, to Hawaii. Whether it’s an elopement on a secluded beach or a family session at sunset, there’s something about the Hawaiian light that feels like it was made for honest, heartfelt storytelling.
As I boarded the plane back to Seattle, my mind raced with ideas for how to make this dream a reality. Maui left its mark on me in more ways than I can count, and I’m eager to return—not just as a visitor, but as a film photographer. For those who dream of images that feel as warm and rich as the memories they hold, let’s connect. Whether you're planning a session on the islands or back here in the Pacific Northwest, I’d love to create something timeless together. Because sometimes, all it takes is a moment—or a journey—to see life through a whole new lens.
